The UMUC Information and Library Services (ILS) Web site is the access point for high-quality resources, services, and instruction available to UMUC students, faculty, and staff worldwide. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

Instructional Tutorials: “Learn How To…” use the library resources with interactive or multimedia instructional materials which include such topics as: how to search and use the Internet, how to evaluate and cite sources correctly, how to avoid plagiarism, developing research and writing skills.

Articles & More: More than 140 subscription databases are accessible to students and faculty. Many of these databases offer full-text material or links to full-text material. Hundreds of online journals, newspapers and periodicals are available to research a wide range of topics either by journal title or subject.

E-books/NetLibrary: UMUC provides a growing collection of full-text books online.

Ask a Librarian: Assistance from a librarian is available 24/7 via email, Instant Messaging (IM), or telephone.

Technical Help: Technical help is available by email or telephone for help with such areas as login/barcode questions, browser and databases issues, and wireless connection.

Get It Delivered: Full-text journal articles, book chapters, and tables of contents that are not accessible in an ILS database can be delivered electronically in PDF format upon request using the Document Express feature.

Faculty Services: Librarians are available to meet the special needs of faculty through workshops, online class visits, e-reserves, a plagiarism detection service (Turnitin.com), and interlibrary book loans.

While a growing number of full-text e-books, journals and other research sources are available through the electronic library, local installation libraries remain a valuable source of books and other research materials for papers and projects. Students and faculty are encouraged to visit the local base library and learn what resources and services are offered. UMUC Asia maintains a faculty loan library at Yokota Air Base to assist in course preparation, provide background reading, and supplement library materials available at the installation libraries. This collection includes approximately 5,000 books and 3,300 audio-visual materials that UMUC Asia faculty may use in their classes and for research. Requested items are delivered using the Military Postal Service (MPS) to the faculty member’s local UMUC Asia site office.

The UMUC Asia collection, as well as the library holdings in Adelphi and Europe, is searchable by selecting the link below. To limit the search to the UMUC Asia collection at Yokota, set the Location field on the search screen to UMUC Yokota (all).

The UMUC Asia library at Yokota is currently being cataloged to develop individual subject guides to videos for a variety of disciplines. Below are selected disciplines for which subject guides are available. To borrow items from these disciplines, or to get a current list of titles in these and other disciplines in PDF format, email the UMUC Asia library at library@asia.umuc.edu.
